Joseph's Merry Christmas
- I took him in to peek at the stockings while we were waiting for everyone to come into the living room. As he picked his stocking up a car that was sitting in the top fell out. He said, "I'd better put it back so Santa doesn't get mad."
- He got a package of socks in his stocking and said with all of the enthusiasm of a 3-yr old, "A whole bunch of socks!" He then went around sharing them with everyone.
- After opening a couple of things he said, "Santa is my best friend."
- He opened half of his presents with scissors instead of tearing the paper just because he loves cutting with scissors.
- It took him until noon to open all of his presents because after he opened each thing he was so excited and content he just wanted to play with it.

Knights of Freedom Summit
We spent this weekend in Salt Lake while Daniel and Benjamin attended this homeschool boys club conference. Daniel was a knight and Benjamin was a villian. It is quite the production each year. It gets better and better!

A day in the life of a reporter
As I finished my second 14 hour work day in a row I think to myself..."How in the world does Kurt do this day in and day out for 7 months straight??!!" Anyways, at least my long and overworked days are numbered, unlike poor Kurt's.
Which brings me to the news of the day. Our reporter just up and didn't show up for work one day, deciding to so graciously leave us high and dry, so I was, without warning, thrown into the reporters position, temporarily until they find someone else. I had to scramble to make all the meetings and interviews and write up all the stories in time to go to print, but i did it!
Here is the link to the paper if you would like to read about all the fun stuff I got to report on this week. The front and back page are where all the news stories are. Click HERE, and the password for week 7/18 is "students"

The boys are back!
Jeff, Benjamin, Daniel, Bryce, Spencer and Grandpa went on their annual backing trip to Rock Creek. It was an exciting aventure. The 15 minute hailstrorm was refreshing. And any excess dirt was washed off by the four hour rainstorm. Fish were caught, frisbees were thrown, pictures were taken and stories were told. They all survived.

Dad's McMannus Moment
I don't go fishing I have adventures. I went fishing at High Savery Lake on Saturday. My favorite spot is a steep sloping hillside where the water is deep. The lake was completely full. After a few casts I hooked into a large fish. There was a tremendous fight. A lot of trashing about until exhausted the fight finally ended. The fish was tired too. Just then I looked up and there was a boat passing by. I had the full attention of the three fishermen the boat. The were anxiously wanting to see the size of the fish that put up the fight. That was when I realized I couldn't get the fish up the bank. The water was about four feet straight down below me and the waves had under cut the bank a little. There was a little shelf of grave two feet under the water. Below me was maybe the biggest fish I would catch this season. I was standing there in my hiking boots and pants but I didn't even think about it. I took off my fishing pack, sat down on my rear end and slipped over the edge and into the water. I don't even remember if the water was cold. I reach down and pull out a 24" four pound tiger trout. I held it up for the fishermen to see just as they went around the point. It was at that point I turned around and saw that the bank was about chest high, undercut with no rocks to step on and I was in two feet of water. I put the fish who had become quite docile up on the bank with my pole and considered my options. To the left and right of me was sage brush down into the water and I couldn't get around them without going into the water over my head. How was I to get up? I could just reach a small green bush about 10" high. I put my hand tightly around it and hoped it roots went deep enough. With great effort I pulled myself up enough to grab a sage brush. With two hand holds I could get my belly over the edge. Then I could get one leg over the edge. Just as I had got both legs up I turned and looked at the 25" fish who seemed to be enjoying the show. He all of a sudden realized that I was going to keep him and started to flop around and was slowing moving back towards the water. Then with great effort the fish jump and went over the edge and back into the water. I tried to grab him but I was a little slow still laying on my stomach. I stood up and watched the 26" trout swim away. Maybe the state record for tiger trout.

How Time Flies
Happy Anniversary!!!

Forty years have gone so fast. Time sure flies when having fun.
Think of all those decades past. And its amazing what you've done.
Seven kids is quite a feat. Reserved for those who dare.
Now that we have kids our own we know why dad is lacking hair!
Now your labor all pays off. Cause grandkids sure are fun.
You love 'em, hug 'em, spoil 'em, then send 'em back when you're done.
All of us would like to say, "Happy anniversary, you two.
Your love has filled our life with joy. And shown us what we can look forward to."
We have a special gift to give. A reunion has been planned.
Don't worry about a single thing. Just come enjoy. It will be GRAND!
